THE SEXUAL INSTINCT

Huân said:
“Dear uncle Hải, I’m a policeman in the Criminal Investigation Office. I’ve been here for six months to practice meditation. For my whole life, I’ve chased and arrested many kinds of criminals. But the criminals that I hate the most and find very hard to understand are child molesters. I can’t understand how they can have a sexual lust for children whose body and souls are too weak and not erotic at all.”

“One time, I was notified of a child sexual assault. The criminal was about to harm a little girl, but when discovered, he took her hostage. When I got there, he was pointing a knife at her throat and threatened to kill her if anyone came close. His face looked ugly and evil like a monster. The poor little girl was squirming in his arms, dissolved in tears. I was afraid that if cornered, the guy would really kill her.”

“I was aware that we didn’t have more time while we failed to hold talks with him. Thus, I asked my boss for his permission to run the risk of attacking the criminal. My boss also agreed with me when I told him my analysis of the current situation. He allowed me to act in a hurry to rescue the little girl as the guy was being too tense. This might make him cut her throat by accident.”

“I signed to one of my comrades to stand on the left of that guy and make a big shout. This startled the criminal and grabbed his attention. In the blink of an eye, I slid to his right side and stabbed his armpit. That immobilized his right arm, so I grabbed his hands and held his neck whilst pulling him away from the girl. At that time, I disdained and hated him so much that I just wanted to break his neck. He didn’t deserve to live in this world. But I must abide by the law. Every case must be brought to the court for trial.”
“Everyone has love and sexual desire because they are instincts. I just can’t understand why many guys can cross the line of being a human to commit a sin like an animal.”

Mr. Hải slowly said:
“The sexual instinct exists inside all beings. Animals can’t control their instinct, so they have an unrestrained way of living. In human beings, sexual desire is controlled and constrained by reasons. And the Saints no longer have desire for sex. These are the three levels of sexual instinct: lust, constraint, and no desire.”

“Whoever inclined to become an animal can find their sexual desire stronger, which their mind cannot control anymore. They don’t have a sense of principles, only a strong desire for lust. That’s why they can easily commit incest, rape, child sexual abuse…”

“Whoever has human dignity will try to control their sexual desire, though sometimes their desire may go up when they see a beautiful figure. When they still have control over sexual desire, they’re human beings. When they no longer have control over sexual desire, they’re becoming animals gradually.”

“Saints naturally stop their sexual desire, thanks to their deep meditation and tranquil minds. In deep meditation, they see sex as being dirty, annoying and suffering. Therefore, they stop having sexual desire.”
“The question is, why does a person have a tendency to become animals? What did he do to have such a desperate sexual desire? Why does he have no control over his sexual desire?”

“There are three reasons. The first is to think too much about sex because they were obsessed with sexual scenes or sexual stories. The second is to focus the brain on something so intensely that a sexual part of the brain is stirred up. The third one comes from the Law of Karma. It means that people did something very bad in the past. For example, they disrespected Saints or they were procurers.”

“If people want to avoid having a strong sexual desire, they need to do three things against the three above-mentioned acts. Firstly, we have to avoid thinking about sex, looking at erotic images, or listening to sexual stories. Secondly, we have to practice meditation to attain a tranquil mind. The third is to respect Saints and to convince others to give up sexual desire.”

Huân and everyone else applauded in agreement. Another meditating practitioner said:
“That is so right. Ever since I practiced meditation, my sexual desire has decreased tremendously.”
Everyone is silently controlled by their sexual desire, more or less. If people don’t cultivate themselves in morality, their instinct may break out strongly, make them do wrong and fall into disrepute for their whole life. If people know how to cultivate themselves in morality, they can keep their sexual instinct within the limit of the law and morality.

Furthermore, people who cultivate morality, practice meditation, and do good deeds can no longer ... kinds of sins will be activated by those wrongdoings including sexual desire. When their sexual desire has no limit, then they can do wrong to satisfy their desire. As a consequence they will be imprisoned by the law and be rejected by morality. Many people are good, but their sexual desires still exist inside themselves. For bad guys who live a life of selfishness and evilness, they have sexual desires that are uncontrollable.
In addition, for those who wear revealing clothes, publicize erotic pictures, and share sexual stories to others, they themselves will be trapped within their sexual desire, and eventually commit a sin.

To control our sexual desire, we must spend our whole life advising others to restrain their sexual desires.

We treasure the purest of souls
Those walk past the call of powers
And with peace forget all the charms
As they board the journey of truth

We treasure compassionate souls
That extends beyond this planet
Towards all beings in the world
And selfless heroes who have sacrificed.
