Lacking morality teachers, this world is on the edge of danger.
Human souls are easily occupied by cruelty, and then they will spread that cruelty into others' souls continually. That makes the world darker. We wish that a lot of people dare to sacrifice their life, refuse cruelty and greed, improve their virtue intensively to be excellent teachers in morality for the world. Morality is invisible and it goes from one heart to another.
INHERITANCE
The four brothers and sisters sat around the table with the mourning bands on their heads. Everyone was sad and tense. The eldest brother said: "Now we have lost both parents. What a big loss we have got. The funeral has just been over. We had better talk about the fortune now because tomorrow we will leave for our own homes. It is very hard to call for a full meeting. I am the eldest brother who can represent our parents to make a decision here. I suggest an equal division. Anything cannot be directly divided will be sold and we divide the income into four equal parts."
The youngest brother said:
"No matter what you decide, this house is mine. I took care of our parents here, so I will keep this house to worship dad and mom here."
The sister said:
"This house is on a 5000-square-meter piece of land and is almost all of the fortune. No way, brother. Each of us has our own family that needs our care. This fortune must be shared so our descendants can have the blessings of our parents and ancestors. I have four children so it is fair that I will take the bigger share."
The eldest brother said:
"Although our youngest brother directly took care of dad and mom, the monthly money sent to him was from me. The youngest took care of dad and mom but ate into my money also, so what was his merit? I must take this house to use as a temple to worship our ancestors."
The third brother stood up and said:
"Please put me aside, I refuse the inheritance. I am a teacher and I can earn my living. I teach ethics to my students so I must be a good example to them. If my students know I am concerned about this fortune, they will not accept my teachings anymore. Goodbye."
Then he walked out.
The difficulty for a person who teaches ethics is that he or she must live a very good life. If he or she wants to live a good life, he or she must not desire fame and fortune. If he or she does not desire fame and money, he or she must accept many disadvantages.
Teachers of morality must believe in the nobleness of their work, find happiness from that work, and look for no other benefits. If they believe in the law of karma, they can be peaceful and think that there is an invisible justice that will compensate them in the future.
This world is extremely in need of morality, so it needs lots of morality teachers. But who can live a simple life to be able to speak about morality with a flame in their hearts?
