Everyone should get rid of their greedy mind to prevent themselves
from committing new sins, especially those who are more fortunate than others. Treasurers, powerful people, widely adored people, talented people, confidential document holders... are people with many opportunities to get bribes. Such people have to pay more special attention to getting rid of the greed in their hearts. Upon death, all possessions will be left behind, only bad or good karma will follow us forever. Greed cannot bring serenity, only ethics do.
TO NOT BE GREEDY
To not be greedy is an important quality of morality.
Greed is when one desires too much for oneself. The first desire is for material possessions and money. Greed for money is basic greed. Money represents all other possessions, so, greed for money is greed for possessions.
Greed is a basic instinct created by the ego. Everyone naturally likes to have many possessions. Everyone thinks that more possessions means more happiness. Some people may not find the need to shop or buy anything. Having money and gold in their house is enough to make them happy. Some people try to prolong that sense of joy by living a miserable life rather than spending a penny. For these extremely stingy people, eating delicious food doesn't bring as much happiness as having a safe full of money.
In order to have a lot of money, sometimes people do bad or cruel things. They commit fraud, rob, kill, exploit, kidnap, torture, cheat, make forgeries, lie, oppress, bully, and so on. All terrible things! Money will be eventually spent, but the sins will not vanish and the law of karma will balance their bad deeds with painful consequences.
With a greedy heart, that person may harm the people around him as well as his mind. The mind of a greedy person is stressed. If his blessings from the previous life remain, he will be able to take what he wants. He will be happy and satisfied. But these feelings will make him feel agitated. His ethics and his good karma will decline day by day.
He who is trying to find morality must get rid of his greedy mind. Greed and morals cannot be grouped together.
In order to eliminate greed, we have to practice being kind, share and help others. At first, we may only share because we believe that karma will bring us good luck if we do so. It is a form of greed as well, but not as bad. Give first and you will receive later. After a while, as ethics grow, we will share simply because we love, not because of the good luck karma will bring us.
We kneel in front of the Saints we worship, and we pray for their help to eliminate our greed. With the blessing of a Saint or God, we will find it easier to eliminate greed, because greed is a human instinct that is very hard to alter.
We should also compliment those who are generous. According to the law of Karma, we ourselves will achieve the qualities of the compliments we offer to others. A kid gave back a lost wallet to the owner. A man offered his land to build a new road. A woman gave away a lot of her own possessions for charity. We should find and praise such people.
Finally, we have to practice meditation to get rid of the greed hidden deep in our mind. We will then be able to stop our greed.
