Self-respecting people always build both morals and blessings.

Lacking blessings may cause disrespect and so does the lack of morality. A righteous and holy man is so careful to avoid faults that even evil spirits and saints have to pay respect toward him.

A dignified person maintaining self-respect, morality, and inner strength while facing disrespect

SELF – RESPECT

Self-respect does not mean respecting ourselves, although the word form itself seems to carry such a meaning. Self-respect is to not allow other people looking down on us because of our faults or mistakes.

For instance, a person with bad table manners eats so fast that other people stop eating to fall their eyes on him with disgust. One of the people can't stand looking at it so he whispered to the man: "Please, you'd better eat properly to keep yourself respectfully." This means that the person should eat in a way that does not make others disrespect his fault.

In another case, there is a man coming to visit his wealthy friend. After chatting for a while, his rich friend throws a wad of cash to his face and says: "I give it to you." As this man has self-respect, he would resolutely refuse the gift given in such a disrespectful manner.

The basic meaning of self-respect is to not allow others to look down on us due to our faults. If we make no faults but others still despise us, then neglect it. This is the difference.

If we feel dismayed easily just because of another's disrespectful manners, this is no longer self-respect. Rather, it reflects the fact that our ego is too big. Self-respect is about feeling ashamed when others look down us because we sin.

Therefore, those who have self-respect are always careful to remain proper personalities and avoid making mistakes so that nobody could despise them. Thus, self-respect should be fully understood as trying our best to maintain our dignity and respect from others.

Those who have self-respect don't like begging others for things. They live in accordance with their blessings. They don't need donations coming along in a disrespectful manner. This makes others think that people with self-respect are impertinent. However, those with true self-respect are willing to plead for others. They do not beg for themselves, but they might try hard to do so for others.

If self-respecting people understand the law of karma, they will try their best to do good deeds. They do not want to be looked down on for lacking blessings. If they do not have sufficient blessings, they will endure it instead of begging. They will try their best to gain blessings rather than do bad things to be despised.

Self-respect differs from taking offence at things others say. Taking offence is about getting angry and depressed when being insulted. Self-respecting people are robust and strong while they are underrated. That is how they blame themselves for making mistakes. If they made no faults but people still disrespect them, that is another case.

So, self-respecting people always build both morals and blessings. Lacking blessings may cause disrespect and so does the lack of morality.

A righteous and holy man is so careful to avoid faults that even evil spirits and saints have to pay respect toward him.
