If you choose a shortcut to become rich by working harder,

you will hardly have success. But if you choose a detour by spending some of your time doing charity, making offerings, building roads and bridges, then after five years or ten, you will have good luck.

WEALTH

Most people love to be wealthy and they think that to do it, they have to work harder, but it's a shortcut, and they hardly achieve their goals. You may see many people who work very hard and do many jobs but cannot be rich. But why? - Because they lack blessings. If, for some reason, you're poor, don't be foolish to put all of your efforts into making money. Let divide your time into two parts: one is for making a living, and the other is for building good karma. And after about ten years, you will start to have good luck.

Please bear in mind that wealth mostly comes from luck; effort contributes a small part. Business people understand this clearly. If someone told you, "That man is so good. He set up a farm of rubber trees and sells his rubber at a high price and becomes rich quickly," then you should understand that his wealth does not come from his effort in setting up a farm of rubber trees since many did the same and became penniless. They did the same way: borrowed money from the bank by mortgaging their houses and farmed a land, and some became rich, some, penniless. Some were lucky to borrow money at a low-interest rate, and then lucky to sell rubber at a high price. Some were unlucky to borrow money at a high-interest rate and then unlucky to sell rubber at a low price. They didn't have enough money to pay back the bank, hence lost their houses and farms.

We cannot foresee what will happen to our business. For example, seeing people working in real estate become rich, we did as them and only had failures. Doing the same way, one was successful, and the other was not. The secret lies in your past blessings.

Someone said: "I'm poor and will work harder and harder and in a longer and longer time." However, if he is unblessed, the harder he works, the poorer he will be. That's why shortcuts don't help. Wise people will patiently take a detour, i.e., try to do good deeds such as giving alms, making offerings, and after five years or ten, they will have good luck. Remember that changing fate by the karma needs five years or ten but not a few months.

Some people have a special blessing that they will have what they wish. Buddha called it 'the wish-fulfilled blessing.' People who have this blessing is because in previous lives, they tried to help others fulfill their right wishes, and they did it in many lives. We don't have this blessing because we did nothing to help others achieve their right wishes.

Here is an example. Seeing a neighbor's child passing by, you called him and asked:

  • How far is it from here to your school?
  • Well, about ten km.
  • What?!! How do you go to school?
  • I walk. I wish I had a bicycle.
  • Well...

If you know the child's wish, and you can afford a bicycle but do nothing, you will hardly have what you desire in many next lives. Therefore, don't ignore even a small thing if it should be done, buying a bicycle for the child mentioned above is an example. You may not have money at that time, so don't promise the child a bicycle; wait until you have enough money, and you will give him a bicycle. You should keep doing good things life after life, and one day we will accomplish the karma of having what you desire.

In short, if you choose a shortcut to become rich by working harder, you will hardly have success. But if you choose a detour by spending some of your time doing charity, making offerings, building roads and bridges, then after five years or ten, you will have good luck.
