The reward for a highly ethical person is that they will feel peace
within themselves, and their heart is at ease because their mind is pure.

THE SCALE OF MORALITY
The strength of morality is measured by how much love we have for the good, in other words, how much we prefer goodness in different situations.
For example, we saw someone dropping his wallet. We called after him, but he was already too far gone to hear. We picked up the wallet and found a large sum of money inside. At this very moment, the scale of morality appeared. Would our love for goodness be greater than our greed for money? If our love for goodness is stronger than anything, we will not hesitate to get the wallet back to the owner at all cost.
Another example: a person contacted us and offered beneficial terms if we would join them to rebel against the government. The scale of morality appeared at this very moment. Would we choose goodness over our own personal benefits? Would we remain patriotic or would we follow them to be under a foreign party? They can try to persuade us to think negatively about our government, but if we were not blinded by the promised benefits, we would not be convinced. If our love for goodness is stronger than our greed for fame or fortune, we could avoid this treasonable trap.
Another example: we fell in love with someone who showed up at the wrong time for our family, responsibilities, faith, happiness, commitment... Although that person is very beautiful, very rich, if we love goodness more, be reminded of our responsibilities more, worship the moral of fidelity more, then we will overcome that temptation.
Another example: we received a threat that if we do not reveal a national secret we know, then we and our relatives will be killed. This case is extreme in relation to the scale of morality. If the love for goodness in our hearts is paramount, we understand that the interests of our country are greater than our lives or our family’s, then we will overcome the threat without fear, and accept death to protect the national secrets.
There are still many other cases for us to measure our moral qualities and more situations that challenge our ethics, from big to small. We should choose not to tell a lie even if that lie gives us great benefit. We should clean up trash on the road in our spare time, even though it is not our responsibility. We should take a victim to the hospital to save their life even if we might be misunderstood.
The reward for a highly ethical person is that they will feel peace within themselves, and their heart is at ease because their mind is pure.
