When we’re blessed because we’ve contributed a lot to life,
then happiness, good fortune, and money will come to us naturally and respectfully. On the other hand, we may cook up many schemes to gain for ourselves, and be successful at first, but sooner or later, things still return to the starting point. Be cautious when getting benefits, be enthusiastic when contributing to life. That’s the true wisdom.
RETURN TO THE STARTING POINT
An sms arrived. Hương looked at her phone.
“It’s me, Vũ. I now use this number. I’m sorry for everything. I was wrong.”
Hương didn’t respond and tried to control her feelings. Another message came:
“I remember all the memories of when we were still together in the village school: the bamboo bridge, the muddy paths in the rice field, the ripe ambarella fruits, and even the small boat in the canal where we used to look for wild flowers...”
Hương shed tears but did not reply. Another message came:
“I loved you with all my innocent heart. Our love story was like a fairy tale.”
Hương remained silent. More messages arrived:
“When we went to the city to study at university, despite being poverty-stricken, we were closely attached and shared everything with each other. But maybe because we were so poor, that I had an insatiable desire for wealth.”
“Yến was rich and prideful. Although there were so many young men being crazy about her, she turned out to be attracted to my rural and masculine characters. At that time, my greed and pride had led me to betray you and marry her. Everyone thought I was so lucky and blessed to marry such a rich wife.”
“Now I finally understand that whatever not mine will never be mine. Their wealth is always theirs. I live in their house as if I were a servant, no more, no less. I can be shouted at and pushed around by everyone in that house, including my wife.”
“It’s not even easy for me to cradle my baby. It seems like I was hired to give them a child. When they attained what they wanted, I was no longer of any use.”
“Now that I am into this tragic situation, there is only one trustworthy person for me to think about, to express my deep regrets to, to love and to beg for forgiveness. Do you know what I mean?”
“I wish to be severely punished by God, burnt to death in hell of unending suffering, and then I would have a chance to be with you as we used to, live a poor but happy life together.”
“I wish we could go back to our hometown to build a green farm as what we were taught in university. In the evening, after working and having dinner, I would swing a hammock for you, and I would sing a song for you.”
“I would only live for you and also die for just you.”
Hương burst into tears.
Everyone needs money, and almost everyone likes money. But the important thing is whether that money comes from our blessing. If not, it will never be ours. In case someone grants us money, it’s a debt we must pay back later. Debtors often depend on, and stay inferior to the creditors, thus they are usually looked down upon.
People who understand moral doctrines and have wisdom are afraid of spending others’ money. Money not gained by our hard work is not ours. To have a long lasting love, we should contribute a great deal to deserve what we receive. We should never think about migrating to rich countries to enjoy their social welfare. Their welfare is paid for by the sweat and blood of taxpayers, while we have contributed nothing to society. We’ll have to work arduously to pay it back later.
The best attitude is to live a life of contribution. Wherever we live, we must contribute to that community. As long as we can still breathe, we should still devote ourselves to life. Just do our parts, and let all the credits and rewards be measured by the universe. It sounds inactive, yet it’s the truth.

All deeds we do must be right.
A loving heart we all need,
Grudge and hatred we dismiss.
Every petal is special,
Every cool breeze through the trees,
We cherish them for the world
