DIFFICULT PROBLEM

When the doorbell rang, Mr. Tien went to open the door and invited Mr. Chat to come in and have a talk. Mr. Chat put a gift on the table and said, "Today, I came to give you a parting gift. I would like to say goodbye to you because I am going to move to another place tomorrow, and I will no longer have the honor of being close to a friendly neighbor like you."

Mr. Tien was taken aback for a while and said, "I see it is good for your family to be here. Why do you have to move?"

Mr. Chat answered:

• Because I'll be moving to a new place for work. I need to find a location close to my workplace to save commuting time and avoid traffic jams.

Mr. Tien inquired, "So, how about your wife? Is her work in motion as well? It is good for you, but is it convenient for her?"

Mr. Chat admitted:

• That is a difficult problem. We had to look at a map of the city and draw a quadrilateral with four corners from four different locations where I work, where my wife works, and where my two children go to school. We found a spot in the quadrilateral's center for four of us to go to work and school. We would look for a house to buy or rent once we have determined an area suitable for all of us. We could either sell our old house and buy a new one in the same area, or we could rent out the old house and rent a new one.

We have been doing it this way for years, so we have saved a lot of time to do other things. Each year, we set aside at least 250 hours to attend practices, care for our family, or do charity work and volunteer.
As I have improved my English, I have gained more credibility in my agency. My wife was able to complete her master's degree also. Thanks to that, my children also have more time to study independently, and they are making significant progress.

I think it is ethical to find a short distance. Because we are not occupying the roads, others have more space to go, which helps reduce traffic congestion.

Mr. Tien contemplated for a moment and then said:

• Maybe I should learn it from you. I should spend some time looking at the city map to select a suitable location for us. However, my wife is a little more obstinate than yours. I'm afraid of getting into an argument with her. Could you please tell your wife to have a talk with my wife before I speak with her about this?

• Because Japan is reliant on a strong transportation system, the housing area is kept far away from the work area. As a result, we now see security guards forcing passengers to enter the subway station early in the morning to close the doors and allow the train to run. People cram together like a wedge and then take advantage of sleeping standing up because they had to stay up late and get up early to spend a lot of time on the subway.

To have accommodations located close to the workplace is a societal responsibility that each individual bears as it relieves pressure on transportation infrastructure. Furthermore, each family reaps numerous benefits from it.
