A luxurious house surrounded by a peaceful landscape, symbolizing the difference between material wealth and true happiness.

SOME PEOPLE THINK MONEY WILL BRING US HAPPINESS

Some people think money will bring us happiness, but there are many things that money cannot buy. Actually, money is not happiness but a vehicle and danger.

Many people may think that money is happiness, because when they have a lot of money they can buy whatever they like. Is this true? – Absolutely not. It is because there are many things that money cannot buy even with a huge amount. For example, money can buy a house, but cannot buy a home because it costs us much more to build a home than to build a house.

So how can we have a happy family? Happiness is something invisible and cannot be handled with money. Happiness comes from our philosophy of life, our peaceful mind and our heart full of love.

So, what do we need to build a happy family? We need everyone in this family to have morals, to treat others with kindness, and to be considerate of others... It's not true that if you have a nice house that you'll have a happy family. Sometimes, in a nice house, there is coldness and lack of affection. People in that house are full of greed, hatred, and ignorance and they fight with each other over their interest, or even harm others. Living in that house is like living in hell because there is no love. Sometimes, in these nice houses, murders actually happen.

Therefore, money can buy a house but not a happy family; money can buy medicine, but not health. Many people travel to other places for various treatments, but their diseases cannot be cured. Health is another problem that cannot be solved with money.

Why is that so? It is because our health is controlled by our gene and influenced by our lifestyle and our practice but not by medicine or by any services. Our health is also dominated by our blessing from the past. In this world there are many billionaires that cannot eat much because of their stomachache and many have died of illness though they could buy any best medication or even any hospitals in the world. When one’s karma comes, no matter how much money one owns, one has to die. The truth is there are many things that cannot be resolved with money. And more importantly, behind money there are so many problems that will arise.

Suppose now you have 10 billion VNDs. What should we do first? With 10 billion VNDs we can do many things, but first we should make offerings to the Triple Jewels, and make donations. But before offering to the Triple Jewels, we have to keep it safe. For example, a Master had 10 billion VNDs to build a temple, and to expand ashrams, the first thing he had to do with this amount of money is to keep it safe. He was advised not to deposit his money in a bank or buy gold because many people would know about it. He intended to buy a large safe but he was afraid that some thieves would know about it and threaten his life, and his money. He intended to bury the money but he feared that the money would be decayed because of rain. Just keeping the money safe was a big burden on him. So, it's correct when we say that money helps us to have many things we like. However, when we have money, especially a huge amount of money, we have to take care of it, and this is not an easy task.
