If we have a debt in this life, surely we will have to repay it;
and when we have not yet repaid this debt, it is still a burden on our soul. Moral people do not want to have debts and those who want to have debts are immoral.

FEAR OF DEBTS IS A VIRTUE
THE KARMA OF OWING AND REPAYING DEBTS
Living in this world, people have a lot of relationships, for example, their relationships with the environment, with their families, with society, etc. Every relationship in this life only bases on borrowing and paying such as the relationship between parents and children, between husbands and wives, among siblings, even between teachers and students, among friends, and among colleagues... The only difference is that we use other words to describe it. It is a good causal relationship or bad causal relationship that exists between them. What we borrow with love is called a good causal relationship and what we borrow with hate is called a bad causal relationship.
For example, a young man was exhausted because of his long journey and bad weather, and he ran out of money. He stopped by a house on his way and honestly asked for help. The affable host not only served him with a delicious meal but also gave him some money to continue with his journey. At that time, his first debt to the host was established for his future lives. Perhaps the host and the young man had neither met nor had any connection before, but just one time he was in a bad situation and the host was nice to help, a debt between the host and the young man was formed. This is a good causal relationship. Why? – Because the attitude of who asked for help and the attitude of who provided help was gentle, kind and easy.
If in this life, the young man meets this host again and returns the host's favor then everything is all right; otherwise, in his next life, if he sees the host, he will feel compassionate toward the host and want to help. This is because he owed the host a debt of gratitude from his past life.
Perhaps right in the current life, we remember our benefactor's kindness and repay him or forget him until our death. In our next life, if by any chance, we meet our benefactor again, naturally we will feel compassionate toward him and want to help him but cannot understand why. So, if by accident, you owe someone a debt and you forget about it or you do not voluntarily repay him, then the law of Karma will urge you to do, and at that time your feelings of gratitude turns into a kind of love. There are many couples that the husband loves and takes great care of his wife, and the wife is indifferent. It's because, in a past life, the wife was the great benefactor of the husband, and now it's time for the husband to repay her.
Some people love their dogs even more than their children. We know of a woman in the US who left her property, worth twelve million dollars, to her dog after she died. How ridiculous! When there are so many people who live in poverty, misery, and deprivation, that woman left a large amount of property to a dog. Although the lawyer would be responsible for managing the money, he would hire someone to care for her dog. But what would happen to that sum of money when the dog died because the dog is incapable of knowing anything. Many things in this world sound unreasonable but are very true according to the Law of Karma.
This story is an example and can be explained as follows: In a past life, the dog was a person who was very kind to this woman and helped her a lot. However, he looked down on other people so much that he became a dog in his current life. Because in the past life, he loved and gave the woman enormous help – that is why the woman owes him a great debt of gratitude, and in this life, she loves him so blindly that she left all her property to him. Love or affection is just owing and repaying. Therefore, if we have a debt in this life, surely we will have to repay it; and when we have not yet repaid this debt, it is still a burden on our soul. Moral people do not want to have debts and those who want to have debts are immoral.
