We must objectively detach from the existing preconceptions to find
the truth of blessing and guilt. In the end, the basic principle of blessing and guilt is the fair Law of Karma. However, the Law of Karma is such a complicated and profound area of mathematics that not everyone can fully understand.

BLESSING & GUILT
Clouds floated in the sky. Pine trees stood along the mountain slope. A distant brook murmured somewhere in the canyon. Big stones laid here and there around the huts. The landscape was like a fairyland. A hermit practiced his religion on the mountain. Some of his disciples lived with him. The General knelt down in front of the hermit to offer alms to him. After worshipping the hermit, the General stepped aside and said:
“Dear Master, I will be summoned back to the capital soon to take the position of Prime Minister. My responsibility will be for the whole country, not just for this border area. Over the past ten years monitoring this area, I have been through many difficulties and challenges. However, thanks to your teachings, I could fulfill the duties delegated by the King. My merits and prestige have spread even to the capital. But living in the capital also means that I will be away from you. I don't know whom I can ask for advice when I face troubles. These are a few last times I could come to visit you. Could you please teach me a lesson that enables me to solve any problems thoroughly despite being far from you?”
The hermit asked:
“You have learned a lot from me. So, do you understand the core principle of being a General?”
The General kept silent for a while then said:
“Dear Master, as far as I understand, a General must put the national interests above his personal and family's interests.”
The hermit shook his head:
“It's only one part of the picture. In this border area, you only have to deal with neighboring countries. In the capital, you will have to deal with your colleagues. Politics is also a battlefield. There are extremely ruthless tricks and cunning schemes. You need to consider what is a blessing and what is guilt. You should guide your followers on blessing and guilt, too. You need to propose to the King a strategic plan of educating the officials on blessing and guilt.”
“In your new powerful position, it is dangerous to consider only the gain and loss of an issue. In most cases, people compete fiercely with each other for gain and to avoid the loss. Only when people know to consider between blessing and guilt can they keep their integrity, and the RIGHTEOUSNESS AND JUSTICE OF THE NATION.”
“However, it is very hard to see through the equation of blessing and guilt. Only people who are very moral and wise can understand that equation properly and thus, do things right.”
The General pondered for a while, then said:
“Dear Master, what should I base on to evaluate the blessing and guilt of every act?”
“You should make time to stay here for seven days. I'll tell you many aspects of blessing and guilt, which are very complicated. Sometimes, we think what we do is good, but it turns out to be wrong, and vice versa.”
“Yes Master, I will stay here. I have thought that to help my country gain was the best moral. I didn't know that in many cases, today's gain could result in greater loss in the future for the country.”
Above are national matters, but our daily small matters also share that same principle. If we always consider gain or loss in whatever we do, it eventually turns out that we are not that wise.
Wise people, instead, consider blessing or guilt very thoroughly prior to doing anything. In many cases, we need to suffer some instant loss in order to do good deeds and avoid doing wrong. However, we will receive good fruits later.
Nonetheless, blessing or guilt is not easy for people to comprehend. Past prejudices may prevent us from seeing through blessing and guilt. Social customs, family traditions and teachings may enforce certain beliefs on us as well.
We must objectively detach from the existing preconceptions to find the truth of blessing and guilt.
In the end, the basic principle of blessing and guilt is the fair Law of Karma. However, the Law of Karma is such a complicated and profound area of mathematics that not everyone can fully understand.
