In life, humans often hate talented and good people. Generally, it is because we are afraid that others can succeed more than us. This psyche is called Envy. It seems a temporary win for us if we can suppress a good and talented person, but it is a loss for the whole society indeed. Our society needs many good and talented people to develop. Thus, if we keep trying to eliminate such people, we are apparently destroying our society.

Out from the meeting room, Trường seized Huy’s collar angrily:
“Why did you vote for the member of the other side to be the director?”
Huy replied:
“Because I considered it useful.”
“What is useful? Their guy becoming the director is a disadvantage for our side! Why do you say so?”
“I think this time will be different. Mr. Vũ, nominated director by their side, is a good person. He will embrace fairness at work. Everything will be better.”
“Good person or not doesn’t matter. When that side is up, ours will be down.”
“I also guess that we will be down, but our descendants will get the benefit. If they work with justice, they will eliminate the concept of private groups, so we will be affected and disadvantaged. But later our descendants will receive good results from that fairness.”
“Ridiculous! It is only sure to our advantage when we handle everything ourselves.”
“Because you want only yourself to take control of everything, our group keeps losing prestige recently. In contrast, the other side made a lot of good changes, they have been looking further, improving their own ethics, and thus, they have significantly increased their own prestige.”
Envy is a mean and cruel trait. Because of worrying that others outdo us, we suppress good people. That way, we are wasting a good source for our community. The law of karma will definitely bring a tough consequence for the envious ones. He will become incapable, lose opportunity, and find himself alone in a deserted place.
Opposite to envy is generosity. We are always willing to support and give a hand to people who are talented and moral. Even when our support helps them reach higher positions than ours, we will still be glad. We put the common benefit higher than our benefit, higher than our honor, higher than our pride. Sometimes it is a temporary disadvantage for us when we support the good ones, yet our descendants will enjoy the sweet fruits of benefit.
The more envious people a country has, the tougher it is for that country to develop, because people keep trying to eliminate each other. On the contrary, a country will fly if there are many generous people who can look further and support the good.
We have often heard the story of three men who fell into a deep hole. The story mentions two solutions. The first solution is that the three men were in solidarity. Each of them carried the others on their heads. The top one could reach close to the edge and find something to grab and climb up. Then, he would run to call for help or find some strings to pull his friends up. Eventually, everyone could escape safely.
The second solution is that they were envious of each other. If one tried to grab a root to climb up, the others would pull him down. Eventually, they all died.
It is ethical for us to be happy and kind to talented and good people. Maybe we have not been able to do anything good, but only this generous heart is enough to contribute to our society. We must promise ourselves that we will always support the good and talented people. We must honestly expect many good people can outdo us so that society betters. Obviously, if we cannot contribute very much to our society, and if someone can contribute more than us, he must be more talented than us. It is a noble moral quality when we always wish good people can outdo us. The law of karma will give such generous people special genius descendants in the future.
